Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive

On Saturday, May 10, 2008, the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) will collect food donations to benefit those at greatest hunger risk in an effort to fight hunger during the NALC's 15th annual Stamp Out Hunger! food drive.

Last year letter carriers throughout the United States collected over 70 million pounds of food, bringing their impressive 15 year total to more than 800 million pounds!

Locally, the Rochester letter carriers collected 28,630 pounds during the 2007 drive!

To participate, place a box or bag of non-perishable food next to your mailbox before their letter carrier delivers mail on Saturday, May 10. The carrier will deliver it to the postal station where it will be sorted and weighed. It will then be delivered to Channel One for inspection and distribution through the Olmsted County food shelf program.

The most requested food items for the drive include boxed dinners (i.e. Hamburger Helper), canned tuna, peanut butter, cereal, canned fruit, pasta and rice. Channel One requests that community members do not donate baby food and items in glass jars.
